Twenty Things to Try in 2020

With a new decade upon us, the year is full of opportunities and fresh beginnings. This may mean making a drastic change in your lifestyle, or it could mean setting small goals for the year. Sometimes it just means the changing of the calendar. However, since it is not only a new year but an entirely new decade, perhaps 2020 is the time to try a few things you wouldn’t have considered before. Make this year the one where you step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Therefore, I have come up with a list of twenty things you should try in 2020.

1. Read a new book every month

Unplug and get reading. Exploring different genres and expanding your reading list will help boost your mind and your body.

2. Set goals for the week

Make a list and check it twice. Set realistic and practical goals that you can achieve throughout the week.

3. Hold yourself accountable

Use that list of goals and make sure you check in with yourself on a regular basis. Ensure you are staying on track and reaching your goals.

4. Silence your phone

Block off time in your week to put your phone on silent for an extended amount of time. Maybe it’s during mealtime, in the evening, or during a Saturday afternoon. The more often you do this, the easier it will be to disconnect from your phone and reconnect with those around you.

5. Get moving

Whether it’s a walk around the block, or an extensive exercise routine, it’s important to take care of your body.

6. Prioritize sleep

Take time to get your sleep in order this year. Get to bed early, unplug at least an hour before bedtime, and consider meditation to help catch up on rest.

7. Smile at a stranger

Being kind doesn’t cost a thing. However, it does have an incredible payoff.

8. Share your feelings

Tell the people in your life how much you love and appreciate them. If someone does something that you are grateful for, make sure you let them know.

9. Face your fears

Is there something you have been putting off due to fear? Use this year to say “yes!” to something that scares you.

10. Ask for help

Reach out when you are in need. Ask people within your community for help when you need it most.

11. Laugh out loud

Find things that make you laugh. Whether it be a great book or an entertaining movie, laughing feeds the soul and can do wonders to boost your mood and overall well being.

12. Social media detox

Take some time to go through your social media and remove individuals who don’t bring you joy. If you wouldn’t engage with them in real life, perhaps its time to consider why you continue to scroll their newsfeed.

13. Travel

Depending on your budget, this could mean an extravagant vacation. However, it doesn’t have to be. Maybe it’s a weekend away with your spouse, a day trip with a friend, or a few days to sneak off on your own to recharge.

14. Schedule important appointments

Have you been putting off an important doctor’s appointment? Make 2020 the year that you stop procrastinating and take care of yourself and your health.

15. Think of others

Do something to help those who are less fortunate. We often get caught up in giving back to others during the holiday season, but it’s important to consider the needs of others all year long.

16. Reconnect with a friend

Life can get busy. If there is a friend or family member that you haven’t spoken to recently, pick up the phone and give them a call.

17. Write a bucket list

Make a list of things you want to accomplish and start ticking away at your list.

18. Spend more time listening

It’s easy to talk. Use 2020 to talk less and listen more.

19. Take a break from social media

As wonderful as social media can be, it’s important to take a break. Whether it’s for a few hours, or a few days, do what works best for you and immerse yourself back into the world in front of you.

20. Enjoy

It sounds cliché but make 2020 about the things in your life that bring you happines.
